e32 lowering springs recommended?

$

Hi guys,

Can anyone recommend some good + good value lowering springs for a 1992 e32 730i 6 cylinder?

Have full suspension set-ups on my other cars but just wanting something basic without having to buy new shocks.
Understand it's not the best for shock life but car will be lucky to be driven once a week.

Will be riding on 16 inch style 4s off an e38 750IL.

Thanks in advance

Does anyone know if the homelink/garage door openers inthe mirrors used in late E series cars is self contained or if they use the diversity antenna? I would love to put that remote into some of my older BMWs.

Check Engine Light In 1st and 2nd gear

Hello,

I recently purchased a 2004 BMW 525D while in Europe. The car has around 200,000 miles on it. I noticed sometimes when shifting into first gear that if I do not give it a lot of gas, occasionally the car goes into an engine fault low power mode. It also does this going from first to second gear as well. Sometimes I have the rpm up to 3k to prevent this from happening. Occasionally it happens in reverse as well. Then it has its days where it doesn’t go into engine fault at all. Once it goes into engine fault mode, I turn off the car and the mode is gone. Just finished driving a 600 mile round trip and car seems fine. All the filters and fluids have been changed and flushed. I’ve read it could possibly be a problem with the battery or even needs a software update. Tomorrow I’m going to check the codes when it goes into engine fault mode. Open to any and all suggestions! Thank you in advance.

New Sound System for 582i

Hey all!

I recently purchased my first BMW, and first car for that matter. It's a '99 E39 528i, and it's in pretty rough shape. I'm planning plenty of fix-ups, but while I can handle body work and cosmetics just fine, one of my least specialty subjects is sound systems and electronics. I was wondering what y'all have in your bimmers to make them bump, because I'm lost in a sea of speakers, amps, and subs on the internet.

I'm planning on taking out the original stereo and cassette deck (and saving them, of course), then installing a touchscreen with bluetooth, navigation, all that fancy jazz. I would love to have an equally modern sounding speaker system, since I love to listen to music in my car while I drive.

new tires/wheels for a non M?

hello bimmerforums.

i'm throwing myself at your mercy - i've got to replace the stock sized tires, and after looking at options at tirerack, i'm wondering if i should just replace wheels and tires all around. from what i can gather, i've got 16x7 et 38s all around. i was running firestone firehawks, but thought the sidewall were mushy (felt soft cornering). i'd run eagle GTs prior to that, and they felt pretty solid.

if i were to replace all four with a new set wheels & tires, what would you all recommend? i'm not unhappy with the 16s, but think 17s would look better. i like the ASA AR1s on these, and the M roadstars... anyone have four front roadstars to sell me?

taking any and all suggestions - thanks a lot for advice!

Has anyone managed to get their dealership to shave anything off the list price for extended maintenance? If so, how much? Current list is $2095 for 2 years or $1075 for 1 year.

Dear all, this my first post since joining. I have a 2005 545i with SMG. After one morning of “no start”, the car sat for a while which drained the battery. I have now charged the battery to 100% and it is being maintained with the trickle charger so I can performed diagnostic. Using a Foxwell NT520 I retrieved the list of code below. I am very handy but need help and guidance with understanding and how to proceed by elimination to fix the various codes. Someone please help!

Valve Cover or Gasket R&R?

$

Hello,

Hello Bimmerworld. I needed some advise I am seeing oil build up (leak) looks like valve cover or just the gasket not too sure. I am planning to do this myself I have done valve cover gasket on previous MB E320 both inline and V6 so I am comfortable, however, this is the first time on BMW. (1) Should I do only the gasket or just go ahead and get a new valve cover too? (2) Do I need the RTV gasket maker along with the gasket? (3) Does anyone know where I can find a DIY for this with pictures? (4) Should I replace the spark plugs while I am doing this?

Attached are some pictures before and after wash for reference. I didn't get it in the picture but oil is settling on the engine mount on the bottom.

Thank You.

2011 335i - Just purchased - Cluster lit up like christmas tree

Hello - first time post. Bought a 2011 335i xdrive w/ 70k miles and drove it home from another state. 130 miles into a 230 mile journey i pass a truck and with WOT I get the half yellow engine warning and reduced power. I limp home and randomly get some rev issues on engine start and the occasional ABS 4x4 / Breaks / Service engine soon light but none of them stay on consistently. I can drive it still if i keep it under 2.5k rpm. Have an appointment with a mechanic Wednesday for diagnosis.

I just bought it so quite the bummer. I got the codes checked at Autozone and they are below.

Any insight into what I should expect or be aware of with this? From my point of view it seems like quite the lemon but I'm hopefully it's just a sensor or two with a leak, but I realize it could be bad.

Thanks you for your time.

SUCCESS! Got my tonneau cover open

After a lot of reading and research here, I decided to inspect the release lever's connection because it didn't seem to have any resistance when I pulled the lever. Sure enough. I found the cable wasn't connected to the lever. Closer inspection revealed that the cable had frayed at the end causing it to fall out of the lever. So I grabbed the remaining cable with a pair of pliers, crossed my fingers and pulled. Voila! The cover latch released and I was able to lift the tonneau cover up and put the top in the boot.

Now all I need to do is figure out how to replace the cable and I'll be good to go!

Impromptu Canadian car meet

Hi all. On Sunday a quick get together was organized with all of two forum members: Dirk (kce1900) and myself. Dirk drove an hour from Montreal to my out of nowhere village near Acton Vale.

It was great to see a fellow forum member, and quite something to experience the V12 for the first time! The smoothness and refinement is unmatched.

By comparing our cars we found out that his rear doors have a third opening position, they open super wide. My doors only have two angle positions, despite also being an iL.

Also the latching mechanism was more satisfactory on his car. There was a metallic quality to the sound, and the doors "pop" when you open them, a lot more than mine. My doors are lazy by comparison.

Anyway, lots more comparisons could be drawn, and many technical aspects were discussed. At the end of the day both of our cars are fine machines :)

Sunroof woes

$

Recently acquired 2001 525. Sunroof was sticky when opened once and now is partially up at the rear and not fully closed at the front.

Is a glass roof. Pressing the switch in any direction results in some load going against the roof panel but no movement. I removed the roof switch panel and tried to manually actuate the assembly via a hex key into the drive. Same thing. Roof panel is stuck.

Can't remove the accordian side panels as the roof is mostly down. Can't access the screws to remove the glass panel. I suspect the way forward is to remove the headlining and remove the cassette.

Anyone have a less obtrusive method of sorting this. Currently parked outside and about to lose weather tightness lol.

Cheers
Matt

okay guys after 7 months of my e30 being parked i’ve finally pinpointed my starting issue. the yellow and black wire connected to the start is bad. i knew this before and thought i fixed the issue by soldering the wire but i went back and cut it then reconnected it with a butt connected and boom e30 starters up no issue. 2 days later nothing again. i’m convinced that i must replace this whole wire but has anybody ever replaced that wire? what’s it connected too? and is it easy to replace?

Help! Obd 1 engine in obd 2 chassis no spark no fuel

$

Ok I’m going to go into detail I’m really stuck and am completely lost I feel like I just want to sell all my BMW’s and buy a Honda. My 93 325i ended up totaled and I stroked, bored, and cammed the m50 about a year ago so I didn’t want to see the engine go. I pulled the m50 with the zf trans along with the engine harness/413 red label dme. Purchased a 97 318i with m44/auto trans. Swapped the m50 over along with the harness and 5 speed. Plugged everything up how it should. Car was equipped with ews 2 so I bypassed it under the glove box and cut pin 7 on the x20 connector. Car would crank but no fuel or spark. All relays/fuses checked out, power at harness and could get the fuel pump to kick on if I jumped the relay. Since I’m 5 speed swapping I jumped pin 5 and 7 on the auto connector. I tried to start the car without the jumper wire in the auto connector and it cranked. (Not sure if that has something to do with it) I figured it was an electrical problem with the chassis itself (PO installed aftermarket alarm) so I purchased another e36 96 328i. M52/auto trans did the same swap with it M50 with the 5 speed and its doing the same thing. Cranking but no spark or fuel. I really need help I’m losing all hope with this build if someone can lead me in the right direction I don’t have a problem sending some money your way.
